Sun City Festival Pickleball Club, Board of Directors Meeting Minutes.
June 7, 2024
The following were in attendance.
Beth Castle, President. Trevor Thorne, Vice President. Mark Swygert, Secretary. Rob Dryden, Director at Large, Player Development. Diana Ballato, Director at Large, Rotations & Court Schedules. Scott Moyer, Director at Large, Events. Leila Mirza, admin/communications. Debbie Strong, Representative, Capital Project Committee. Dee Davison, Director of Recreational Play, Association of Pickleball Players (via Zoom). Absent: Chris Prellwitz, Treasurer.
Beth Castle called the meeting to order at 1:30 pm.
Minutes.
The meeting minutes for the Pickleball Club's Board of Directors meeting on May 3, 2024, were presented for approval. Trevor Thorne made a motion to approve the minutes. Diana Ballato seconded the motion. The minutes were accepted by a unanimous vote of approval.
Treasurer's Report.
The Treasurer's Report was not presented as the Treasurer was out of the country. The most recent Financial Report is posted on the Club's website.
President's Report.
Beth Castle presented the President's Report. A paddle rack is in place at Wagner Court 12 to aid in open play. Additional racks may be installed at the Wagner and Sage courts if the new paddle rack system is evaluated as an aid to open play.
VP Report.
Trevor Thorne presented the Vice President's Report. A schedule for court cleaning was provided. The current schedule goes through August 2024. A new set of wrenches is available for use by the court cleaning crews at the Wagner and Sage courts. Phil McWilliams, the HOA Facilities Director, was contacted regarding maintenance items including court resurfacing, Wagner court 16 wind screens, and touch up paint. Director McWilliams will schedule these maintenance items.
Events & Tournaments.
Scott Moyer presented the Events Report. The Firefighters Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024. The Gary Sinise Veterans Tournament is scheduled for November 8-10, 2024. A Pickleball Club Halloween Party is in the planning stages with a potential date of the third week of October 2024. A putting event is in the planning stages.
Rotations & Coordinators.
Diana Ballato presented the Rotation Report. There are no plans to change the current summer rotation schedule. Numerous waitlists for rotations at the Sage courts are noted by the Board.
Player Development.
Rob Dryden presented the Player Development Report. Cases of unsportsmanlike conduct have been noted by members of the Board. These cases will continue to be monitored for potential future disciplinary actions.
Capital Projects.
Debbie Strong, a member of the Pickleball Club's Capital Projects Committee, presented estimated costs for eight [8] shade options for the Sage and Wagner courts as well as fund raising concepts. The Board thanks the Capital Projects Committee for their efforts gathering estimates for potential Capital Projects.
Other.
Dee Davison, a Sun City Festival resident and the Association of Pickleball Players Director of Recreational Play, presented an awareness briefing to the Board on the topic of Recreational Ratings.
