SCF Pickleball Club Board Meeting
January 16th, 2023
The following people were in attendance.
Craig Palermo, President. Val Vollmin, Treasurer. Trevor Thorne, Secretary. Beth Castle, Player development. Diana Ballato, Director of coordinators. Cheryl Casey, Director at large. Katie Westermann, Admin/communications.
Craig Palermo called the meeting to order at 8:07am on 1/16/23. All in attendance met the quorum’s requirements.
A special meeting was called to discuss the current budget, ladders and USPA-UTPR rated only play.
Discussions were had as to the completeness of the current budget as crated by the prior board. No allowance was made to cover the income from the apparel sales or the tournaments. It was agreed that changes at this point should not be necessary however careful attention will be made to ensure that the budget is in-line with current spending and income.
Ladders: Jack Bonawitz and Rick Hill have volunteered to coordinated weekly ladders play which had been run by John Hoyer in the past. Running ladders require a considerable amount of work by the coordinators keeping track of scores, averages etc. that determine the line-ups for the next weeks play. 2.0-2.5 and 3.5-4.0 levels of play were considered. As a pilot it was agreed to allow the playing of ladders at the 3.5-4.0 level. Diana will inform Jack & Rick of the approval, a time slot will be created for Tuesdays from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Likely to start on 2/7/23 which will need to be confirmed after scheduling.
Rated Play: Val presented her justification in rated only play. The suggestion was well received by all in attendance. After discussion it was agreed to create a pilot rotation for both 3.5 rated and 4.0 rated players. USPA-UTPR ratings will be required to qualify to play in these rotations. In house rating is a thing that will be forthcoming at a later date. 3.5 rated will be played on Thursdays 12:00-1:30pm, using 7 courts. 4.0 rated will be played on Thursdays 12:00-1:30pm using 5 courts. Timing and courts will be determined with consideration of the cleaning crew scheduled from 12:00 to 2:00pm.Coordinators will be required.
It was agreed that Don and Gina will run a 2.0 rated skills and drill at Sage starting in February. To start, 2 courts will be assigned. Time to be determined.
Craig Palermo presented a motion to adjourn at 8:44am. All in favor.
