President's Message - Summer 2017
Greetings to everyone.
Wherever you may be, I hope you are having a very nice and relaxing summer... and also getting to play some pickleball as well.
We diehards at Festival have been holding up the fort and having a good summer with lots of pickleball, vacations, meeting new members and playing on our nice new courts. You will not believe the number of new players that have joined the club since the summer began!
Things have still been moving along here at our Pickleball Complex. The contractor has turned over the Wagner Wash courts to Pulte, and your Board of Directors have been working with Pulte to continue to work on the final punch list items to make sure the courts are meeting our needs. We are also working with Pulte on a few other items that were not included in the construction phase of the project. For example, putting up a bulletin board and a backboard for practice at the new Courts, installing a speaker system and possibly two monitors so that when we have a tournament, we will have the main tools necessary to keep matches running smoothly and efficiently.
The Sage Center Courts have been refurbished. Pulte replaced the old surface with new colors to match the courts at Wagner Wash. We are still awaiting our new windscreens to replace the old torn windscreens, which should be happening anytime now. The courts look fantastic!
As a membership we have been working on the new logo which I am sure most of you have seen on the website. We had the logo printed on t-shirts and currently have had two batch orders placed. We know many of you were holding back waiting until you return to Festival. You can still place your orders now on our website, and we will hold them for you until you return.
Our logo designer is club member, Richard Mednick. Richard has been creating and directing award-winning projects, commercials and live events for many prominent multinational corporations throughout Europe and the US including: Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s, IBM, CBS Television, British Leyland Motors and many more. He continued his career as the Creative Director at a large production company, specializing in live corporate theater. In addition to his concept creation and directing, his background includes: Computer Generated Imagery (CGI), 3D Animation, editing and special effects. Richard and his wife Marit, lived in Brussels, Belgium and Los Angeles, California before making Buckeye, Arizona their permanent home. Those are very impressive credentials! It is no wonder he won the logo contest. We asked Richard what inspired his logo design: “I set out to create the logo to be timeless, that reflects our club’s high standards.” Well, it certainly does and we are very happy with the results.
Summer is slowly winding down but pickleball is picking up. We had several ongoing programs continue throughout the summer -- something that has never occurred in the past. So when our snowbird neighbors return, we are sure to go into full swing with more programs and events. Your Board of Directors is working very hard to put together a new fall schedule of activities -- a schedule that will be fun and exciting for all players.
With 24 courts available we have plenty of courts to conduct activities BUT we need more volunteers. We have been having some very dedicated volunteers this summer but we need to give them a rest. In other words, we need back-up help. Are you willing to be an assistant or a lead person for one of our programs? Think of ways that you are willing to help and drop me an email offering your ideas. Training will be available and that information will be available in the future on the website, so make sure you check it regularly. Remember, if you have any ideas on new activities or programs that you are using somewhere else, we would love to hear about it -- it might just catch on here as well.
I think I can speak for all us “year rounders” that we are looking forward to having all our friends come back and spend time with us again. Don’t be too surprised at the level of play on the courts; the members here are working hard on their skills and it shows!
I am really looking forward to the up coming fall and seeing all your smiling faces on our good-looking courts.
