January 2024
On behalf of the SCF Pickleball Board and Admin Team, I wish you and your families a Happy New Year! As we enter the new year, I would like to highlight a few notable events and other activities coming up soon. But first, please note the 2024 Board has met and confirmed the following slate of Officers.
Special thanks to Sandy Angle and Mary Comer for their time on the Board. Both will be missed.
2023 was another eventful year for our Club. We ran tournaments including APPL, In-House, Hen House, Highlander, and United Buckeye Firefighters, which raised money for their charity. More importantly, we welcomed 265 new members, bringing our total membership to 1258. As our club continues to grow, please welcome those new members, and help them learn how our club works. Remember when you were new to the courts and a smiling “veteran” helped you along your picklelball journey. We added new events to our program, including Fall League, 4.5 rotation, and training lessons/modules. You will find more Club membership and event stats on our website under Memberships. Here's the link: Here's the link: 2023 Year in Review.
During our annual Club meeting in November, which had a record attendance of 163 members, we accomplished a couple of goals:

During our annual Club meeting in November, which had a record attendance of 163 members, we accomplished a couple of goals:
- Volunteers – Volunteers are at the core of everything we do, and our Club is always in need of more volunteers. Twenty-nine (29) new members offered to volunteer on various events and projects in 2024, and they will be called upon soon! Thank you!
- Capital Project – Membership input on our upcoming 2024 Capital project, for which the HOA has approved carryover funds from 2023. Attendees voted on their project(s) of choice.
*This may be skewed as someone wrote “Sage courts.” There is not enough room to safely put fencing between those courts.) We can add gates to the courts at Wagner.
The Board will take this initial data and seek additional member input to determine the 2024 Capital project. The HOA must approve first, then the final decision to approve any large project (over $1,000) requires a General Membership vote. Stay tuned for progress reports on this important undertaking.
As we head into our coldest months, the Board has decided to test a new-to-the-market pickleball. Selkirk has created a ball that is much more durable than the Franklin ball we are currently using. The Franklin balls easily crack during the cold, and since pickleballs are the biggest expense for the Club, we are interested in better quality balls, which are less expensive when purchased in bulk. To track how the Selkirk balls hold up over the next few months, blue nylon backpacks have been placed on each court for cracked balls only (no trash, please!) Collecting the cracked or broken balls will give us real data on their durability.
Finally, and most importantly, the Board and Admin team want to thank the many volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to the club. We cannot adequately express how wonderful you all are. If you have an interest in volunteering for the Club (tournament season is approaching), please contact any Board member or send us an email.
Mark your calendars for the following Tournament dates:
