President's Message - August 2018
As we come out of the middle of the summer and all the high temperatures here at Festival we are looking forward to the coming of fall. We have had some great play during the morning rotations, open play and lots of evening play on the courts. As you can guess the summer play and programs keep growing each year. This is a very good thing!
More and more residents/players are moving here full time and the number of new players keeps growing. As a club we are now at about 629 registered members and this number continues to grow by the month.
The Board has been involved with various programs and maintenance issues during the summer months. We have been testing several different pickleballs by different manufacturers. We also worked with Pulte to replace the drinking fountains so that we now have cooler water during the hot days of summer, with working fountains!
Board members are putting together a new training program for both players and player-coaches – experienced players who would like to help instruct. And we are working on the new fall program which will start in October. The Pickleball Tutor ball machine will be available for check-out through the Trackit-Hub system the first of September – more details on the check-out process to follow.
After a hiatus of several years, we are bringing back a fun and popular social event during the second week of November (exact date to be determined) the fun filled DINK-A-THON! More information will come out about this event as we get further down the road putting this together. It is rumored that we are going to have a band and food for this fun time.
I want to thank all the hard working volunteers that have helped out all summer long. I know a lot of the volunteers are taking some well-deserved time off in September. As we move into the fall schedule we are going to need many many more volunteers for all the programs that we would like to offer, so please volunteer your time if you are able to. A number of you volunteered via the Spring Survey, so please know we will be contacting you.
As I brought up in my very first President’s Message, “Ask not what your pickleball club can do for you, Ask what you can do for your pickleball club”. If we want to continue our growth and continue offering many different programs we need our members involvement and support.
As you look to making your way back here to Festival, I hope you all have had a great summer with lots of playing, lots of travel and great times with family and friends. Remember, you have lots of friends waiting for you here on the pickleball courts!
Take care everyone and have a great end of summer. See you all soon!
