PICKLEBALL CLUB DIRECTORS

My name is Craig Palermo.
I have been playing pickleball for ten years. My wife and I moved to Sun City Festival in 2018. I served as Pickleball club president for the first two years we were here. We have had a huge turnover on our pickleball board this year and I thought it might be a good idea to add some stability with experience to mix with all the new board members as our club moves forward. We have amazing pickleball facilities here at Festival. We have an amazing group of over one thousand pickleball players. We have so many amazing people volunteering their time and energy to make this the best pickleball club in the greater Surprise area. Just thought I would do my part by offering to fill this open spot on our Pickleball Board. Thanks, Craig Palermo |
Note: Craig's term runs from 1/1/2023 thru 12/31/2023

Brenda and I purchased our home in SCF in November 2020. During Thanksgiving Weekend 2020, we, along with our two cats, drove from Silverdale, WA, to our new home. Regretfully, I had to return to WA for work the Tuesday after Thanksgiving while Brenda waited for our furniture to arrive on the moving truck. As soon as she could, Brenda signed up for the Introduction to Pickleball course and started playing ball. I finished my career for the Department of the Navy and retired at the end of January 2021. I started playing pickleball as soon as I settled in at SCF.
We began to play in the Club's rotations as well as playing in the evenings with friends. I felt the Club could have more opportunities for members to play if an evening rotation was offered. I approached the Board and volunteered to be the event coordinator for an evening 3.0/3.5 rotation. During a discussion with the Club's Director of Player Development, I discovered that the then-current Volunteer Coordinator was seeking to step away from the position after serving the Club for quite some time. After some thought, I offered to serve as the Club's Volunteer Coordinator and set about ensuring Event Coordinators were in place for the Club's 2022 Fall Schedule. Brenda and I, along with Sue and Tom Karas, serve as coordinators for the Introduction to Pickleball course. I particularly like coordinating the Introduction to Pickleball course as I get to see the many smiling faces that are looking forward to learning and participating in the game we all enjoy playing. I've found the position of Volunteer Coordinator personally rewarding and I would like to give back to the Club. After some thought, I decided to allow my name to be placed in nomination for a position on the Board for the upcoming Board elections. I believe the Club has a bright future ahead and, if elected, I look forward to having a part of the Club's future success. I have enjoyed playing with and serving the members of the SCF Pickleball Club and look forward to continuing to do so in the future. |

Good day, my name is Trevor Thorne, I wish to inform the current Board Of Directors that if elected, I would accept a position on the board of the SCF Pickelball Club as of January 2023.
I was born In Plymouth England and moved to the US in September of 1974. Prior to my immigration I had served an apprenticeship as a machinist while being educated as a manufacturing engineer. Upon my arrival in the US I worked for a small manufacturing company In Englewood Colorado. Within a few short years I purchased a minority share of the company prior to a larger company purchasing our business. The purchase was predicated on me accepting the position of VP in charge of all operations. While serving on the BOD I helped grow the company over employing over 180 individuals building components and sub-assemblies for the DOD, aerospace, medical, firearm accessories industry along with being the largest supplier of metal parts for the Hunter Douglas Company worldwide. During my working career I served on my companies BOD. In addition, I served for many years on the boards of a Federal Credit Union and the National Tooling and Machining Association. I have owned property in the valley for 25 years the first 21 years were in Mesa Arizona where I rented two properties to snowbirds. Servicing the properties in the fall and spring I played tennis. I captained the 3.5 tennis league team for a year prior to moving to SCF and taking up pickelball about three years ago. I now play on regular basis enjoying open play, rotations and ladders. I have been full time resident for 4 years in SCF. In giving back I have substituted on occasions for coordinators along with cleaning courts every two weeks or as required. I believe in contributing when I’m involved with any activity, my experience in business would help our club to grow and prosper understanding the desires and needs of all members of our club from 2.0 through 4.5. Thank you, please don’t hesitate if there are questions you may have. Regards Trevor J Thorne 303-358-2986 [email protected] |

I have been playing pickleball since 2010.
I served as Vice-President of the Red Deer Pickleball Club for 1 year in 2013 and served as President for 5 years from 2014-2019. I was instrumental in the construction of our beautiful 20 court outdoor facility, a first of its kind in Canada. The Club has grown from about 28 members in 2013 to over 650 members today. I also served as President of Pickleball Canada for 2.5 years from 2016 until mid-2018. When I took over as President in 2016, Pickleball Canada had less than 2000 members and by the time I left we had over 10,000 members. I received an award from Pickleball Canada in August of 2021 for my leadership in developing the sport of pickleball in Canada. I am currently a Certified Referee and have been since 2017. I was Head Referee and ran the Ref desk for the Canadian Nationals in 2021 and also for our annual Red Deer tournament in 2022. I took a couple of years off from serving on the Red Deer Pickleball Board but have recently gone back on the Board to help with the Summer Play Program and to work on an expansion of our courts. I currently serve as the Ratings Chair and Director of Summer Play for the Red Deer Club. I feel with the experience that I have; I can be of help to the Sun City Festival Pickleball Club and its members. |
